Another world awaits just a two-hour boat ride from Honiara. Tulagi, less commonly known as Tulaghi, is a small island in Solomon Islands, just off the south coast of Ngella Sule. The town of the same name on the island was the capital of the British Solomon Islands Protectorate from 1896 to 1942 and is today the capital of the Central Province. In the middle of the Florida Islands, Tulagi was the Solomons’ former capital; it was also a Japanese base during WWII. It's now a renowned playground for divers, with a series of fabulous wrecks lying just offshore. Wreck buffs will need a few days to explore the huge WWII wrecks lying just offshore, including the monster-sized USS Kanawha, the USS Aaron Ward and the Moa.
